from a distant land

from a distant land

I am continually asked how long an image takes to build. My usual reply is from a day to a month. This one started some three years ago and i got distracted and its one of six that i have used these cold dark days to finish. Jan 2018

I parked the initial version of the masque section on the main website but it was always my intention to finish it in this way.  London 2018

Divine Guidance

Divine Guidance

This image is close to the original sketch i made, its much rougher around the edges than previous images i have made in this style.

I was wanting a Jeanne d’Arc figure and think it works well.

A Gothic Tale

A Gothic Tale,

A break from the recent style. This is an elaborate doodle, I was trying out technique combinations and different types of masking. some of the elements have gone on to be used in other images, the central figure for example ended up as  http://www.geoff-franklin.com/photoblog/gestalt/

This is the third in the trilogy, silence, salt and now sleep. I have started a new project and have been so engrossed in it that I forgot to post this as promised. I think need an assistant.

I shouldn’t read Shakespeare in Rome, I start producing work like this.

and so came eden

and so came eden

This picture evolved as i was making it. There are four photographs as the core of the image and i made several mask layers using 3 different templates that i have used before. Not so many actions were used and the whole construction is much simpler.

Disguise and Truth

Disguise and Truth.

I sampled the image into 1500+ segments and rebuilt the image with some additions.

La Danse De La Vie

La Danse De La Vie

La danse de la vie

I had a visitor today just as I was finishing this image, they thought it was a drawing until I showed them the original source images.

The main figure in the centre I found in a cemetery in North Lancashire, and was quite unusual for that grave yard.     The mask i used in this is much more ragged stripping away more of the subject. I am interested in how the brain joins the dots in the rebuilding. This  give  the figures very a organic appearance rather than the stone originals they are.

Seul dans la brume

Seul dans la brume

This is from the set I am working on called en marge du bonheur, link to the series here:   http://geoff-franklin.com/springboard/en-marge-du-bonheur/

This image has been sat on my desktop unfinished for a couple of months. It needed a couple of tweaks, I ended up stripping it back and completely rebuilding it – works though.
