from a distant land

from a distant land

I am continually asked how long an image takes to build. My usual reply is from a day to a month. This one started some three years ago and i got distracted and its one of six that i have used these cold dark days to finish. Jan 2018

I parked the initial version of the masque section on the main website but it was always my intention to finish it in this way.  London 2018

Waiting out Time

Waiting out Time

Waiting out time on Mount Oylmpus

The summit of Mount Olympus, stands the meeting place of the gods. The mountain in northern Greece was said to be where the gods and goddesses built their palaces. Any of the gods could live on the great mountain summit, but no human was ever allowed there under any conditions.

The image was made with a different sampling technique. The source was shot for a rotating gif.

Another image from the series from Brightling to Dymchurch. The owl of the marsh is a nod to the smugglers of Romney Marsh to the east of Rye.

Adieu

Adieu

I like this one, its core is a preparation piece for a more intricate image. I took this element and wove it into the  final image.

sleep

sleep

This is the third in the trilogy, silence, salt and now sleep. I have started a new project and have been so engrossed in it that I forgot to post this as promised. I think need an assistant.

salt

salt

As promised the second in the series of three. The third is now finished and called serpent – sneak preview bottom right. Inspired by reading Shakespeare in Rome with all its magnificent architecture and sculpture. Again multiple layer masks were created and overlaid and blended. The original size is 16×16 inch.

La Danse De La Vie

La Danse De La Vie

La danse de la vie

I had a visitor today just as I was finishing this image, they thought it was a drawing until I showed them the original source images.

The main figure in the centre I found in a cemetery in North Lancashire, and was quite unusual for that grave yard.     The mask i used in this is much more ragged stripping away more of the subject. I am interested in how the brain joins the dots in the rebuilding. This  give  the figures very a organic appearance rather than the stone originals they are.

Seul dans la brume

Seul dans la brume

This is from the set I am working on called en marge du bonheur, link to the series here:   http://geoff-franklin.com/springboard/en-marge-du-bonheur/

This image has been sat on my desktop unfinished for a couple of months. It needed a couple of tweaks, I ended up stripping it back and completely rebuilding it – works though.
