The Dolls Come Alive at Night

The Dolls Come Alive at Night

The Dolls Come Alive at Night.

As a child, i had an overactive imagination and believed that once out of the room objects would come to life. I think many of us do, hence the movie Toy Story was so popular.

I also had some puppets with strange eyes that were always disturbing and felt their eyes followed me around my room. They mostly lived in a draw out of sight. But i was always aware they were there – waiting.

Magic Carpets are something of all children’s imagination, and if you are lucky like me you took it with you into adulthood.

Starvecrow Lane

Starvecrow Lane

Girl in a red dress, Starvecrow Lane Peasmarsh East Sussex.

I was driving from Brightling down to Rye and took a detour down some country roads and ended up driving down Float Lane loving the name thinking about how boring and unimaginative some road names are and then it got better, Float Lane runs into Dumb Womans Lane. What I like is that this road name has survived. Another road name i like is a few miles away in Peasmarsh, Starvecrow Lane the title of this piece.

Fullers Folly

From Brightling to Dymchurch

This is the first picture in the series, Brightling, resting place of Mad Jack Fuller, the eccentric squire squire of Brightling East Sussex, builder of follies including his own Mausoleum constructed in the shape of a pyramid. Folk lore had it that he was buried in full dress suit with top hat sat at a table with a roast chicken and bottle of wine set before him. Sadly, though it might have been his last wish, when the pyramid was restored in the 198o’s he was found to have been buried in the conventional manner.

Rye Foreign

Rye Foreign

Rye Foreign.

This image is from the series from Brightling the burial place of Mad Jack Fuller to Dymchurch on Romney Marsh the home to the fictional character Dr Syn the Scarecrow. Most of the material with a few exceptions was shot along the route. This picture is one of the exceptions with the background being the ceiling of the Pantheon in Roma, one of my favourite spaces in the world. The original background that was shot in Rye Foreign didn’t work and I was already playing with this background, just added it to see what it looked like and I couldn’t go back, for me it worked.
